Is it Love or just Lust?   Leave a comment

Is it love or lust? A question we have all asked ourselves on a few occasions I am sure.
A better question (in my mind) is does it matter?
Both love and lust are exciting and wonderful feelings.
Both love and lust can inspire us into action.
Both love and lust can make our heart race and our minds turn to mush.
The hard part when it comes to finding people that can hold our interests indefinitely is to find someone who gives us a taste of both.
One without the other is like a half filled cup. It can quench our thirst, but we become parched soon after.
To be fully content we need the whole darn glass to be filled.
So to me… love and lust are equals. Neither is more important than the other. I m happy to have my thirst quenched in either manner.

On to the art…

Is it love or lust retro style painting

I was still in my retro , pulp art, pop comic, graphic novel mindset obviously.
Because of the subject matter I wanted it to have a grungy feeling so I dirtied it up. Because of the style I wanted it to POP so I used bold color blocks.
As a painter I primarily stick with opaque paints when it comes to acrylics. When I do use semi opaque paints it is usually only to glaze over the top of complimentary and semi close colors, but in this case I used single coats of semi opaques over very different colors to give it that feeling without sacrificing vividness. It is a very different look and handling for me.

This is 12″ x 12″ on stretched canvas.
Prints of the original (as shown above) can be found HERE via Fine Art America.
I did two very different digital remixes of this painting.
One you can find on Redbubble. I primarily did this one for stickers and the coffee mug (because I am a coffee fanatic) but you can also find wall art, cards, and shirts available.
The other version is available via Society6. This is my personal favorite rendition. I recommend the 13″ x 13″ print on canvas if you are way frigg’n pimp. It does cost 4 times as much as the regular prints, but hey… it is darn cool!

Now to just be a dork I give to you the “Official” definitions of love and lust.

It is strange to me how the “official” definitions of anything suck the frigg’n life out of a word , thought, or feeling.
Even Love and Lust sound boring and lame when a dictionary gets a hold of them.
