Tourmaline & Smoky Quartz

I did a bunch of tiny quartz crystal tattoos this last month, but I only had one request for Tourmaline & Smoky Quartz. They were by one person, and put together.
Most of the quartz crystal tattoos were pretty straight forward, and I have done tons of them through the years as parts of other tattoos. People like crystals and gems.
I had never done a Tourmaline/Tourmalinated Quartz though. I’d also not done a smoky quartz as a stand alone type image. Usually a crystal or gem of a brown type would be offset by other colors to make the browns pop.
So… this was interesting.
One required colors to bounce to make look a bit glassy and the other isn’t glassy at all.
Smoky quartz can be so dark it’s almost nearing black. It can also be milky white or gray blends with that black. There is always at the least a slight brown tinge. Think a smoky brown to black color, ranging from transparent to opaque and you have it.
Tourmaline quartz, or tourmalinated quartz always has needle-like inclusions of black tourmaline. It it can be transparent or translucent quartz. The black tourmaline inclusions, can resembling needles or strands running through the stone, or they can be in flecks like seeds or small insects.

For this the client looked at various examples and I did as she asked to match up with her vision of what these two quartz crystals would look like based on her own experience with the stones.
The end results were interesting and unlike any of the other quartz tattoos I did which look more like what we usually think of when we think of crystals. Or, maybe I should say “What I usually think of.”

Tourmaline & Smoky Quartz

I put the little border stuff on the image to block out previous tattoos so as not to distract from the crystals.

A bit on the Tourmaline Quartz:

  • Black Tourmaline provides grounding and protection, while Clear or milky Quartz amplifies these qualities, creating a strong protective barrier against negativity and bad vibes in general.
  • Tourmalinated Quartz is believed to harmonize the polarities of Yin and Yang energies, bringing balance, keeping harmony, and promoting a sense of well-being.
  • It can be used to address negative patterns via contact and promote a more positive outlook.
  • Many believe it ideal stone to place throughout your home because they think it cleanses the environment by neutralizing harmful electromagnetic frequencies emitted by radiative devices such as computers and cell phones. I’m not sure how it got that reputation, but it’s a thing.

A bit on the Smoky Quartz:

  • Smoky quartz is strongly associated with the Root Chakra, promoting a sense of stability, security, and a grounded connection to the earth.
  • The grounding and calming energy of smoky quartz can help to alleviate stress and anxiety, allowing for a more balanced and focused approach to challenges and hard to reach decisions.
  • Smoky quartz is known to decrease depression and fatigue, helping one to let go of what is no longer needed for growth and to embrace positivity.
  • It helps to release and neutralize negative emotions like fear, anxiety, and resentment, promoting emotional balance and tranquility.
  • Smoky quartz can help clear mental fog, enhance focus, and improve concentration, making it beneficial for study or work environments.

Smoky quartz is obviously a good one if you have anxiety or make rash decisions that F your life up without really looking at the overall picture first. A clear mind is a good thing.

You will note I skipped over the healing and spiritual benefits of both Tourmaline & Smoky Quartz just now. Google can be your friend on some occasions, and this is one. Both of these types of quartz have many great connections regarding healing.
