Figured I should post at least once more for 2015. I had these images on my phone so they are what you are getting.
\nThis was a diptych with each canvas measuring 18″ wide x 24″ high. The scene is a romanticized and exaggerated beach view of Kalaloch in Washington state which is a bit west of where I live. <\/p>\n

\"Kalaloch<\/a><\/p>\n

Kalaloch is one of the most visited areas of Olympic National Park. I spend a lot of time in the park, but not out in the Kalaloch and Ruby Beach area. I actually live less than 5 minutes (if driving) from the park. That is about a ten minute bike ride or a fifteen minute run. Our area is beautiful. <\/p>\n

Anyways… this painting was a headache because of my crazy life. I had a lot going on as the Christmas holiday was approaching and I was doing this as a commission which I’d promised to have done before Christmas. Life got in the way and I ended up behind schedule so to complete this I ended up spending a couple nights burning the midnight oil.
\nWhat you are seeing here is the completed paintings as of a day before delivery date. No prob you may think… but I had more to do. The versions you are seeing are are not what I had promised to deliver. I also had 6 stylized portraits to complete in the sky meant to look as if they were made of star stuff. I’d never actually done such a thing so getting them just right took a couple fails before I liked the level of detail. The first images were overly detailed and seemed like the heads of gods floating in space. The second attempt which I painted over where to simple and didn’t show enough of each persons characteristics to truly betray who they are. It was the third attempt where I finally found a happy middle ground of detail and and random spread out stars. The story of the three bears and Goldie Locks came to mind as I painted up the faces in the stars. That third try seemed “just right” and I was satisfied with the outcome.
\nI was able to deliver on time. I would not be responsible for someones gift not being under a tree.
\nSince then I have heard that the recipient was pleased with her gift, so I am twice as happy with the work.
\nAs I don’t know the people who were represented in the sky… I’m not sharing pictures. You can however enjoy the scattered sprinkle of random stars in the above paintings. <\/p>\n

If you have never been to the west coast of the Olympic Peninsula, I recommend you do so. Many lovely beaches cover the entire western side of Washington state and there is also the Hoh Rainforest. Yes, there is a rain forest in WA and it is a treat to see. Do it before you die. <\/p>\n
